I mean, LITTLE frog sitting on top of BIG frog!? Frog Cake Aesthetic representing in this hilarious cake. I think I’m just going to get better at piping these blobby little froggies – here’s one I piped on top of this Frog Cake/Jabba The Hutt mash-up cake from a while back. I haven’t piped tooooo many of these frogs, and you may be wondering…
How to Pipe a Buttercream Frog!
You will need a big old open-circle piping tip – I used the biggest jumbo one I had! Use a piece of parchment paper, and pipe a thick blob while pulling upward and away. Use a small offset spatula to shape your frog into shape, if need be, so the frog takes on more of the squat little frog shape. Then, using a smaller open circle tip, pipe the raised eye spheres, and using the same piping tip, pipe little arms and legs, if desired. Pipe black eyes and a derpy smile, because of all these frogs seem to have derpy faces – and you’re done! Freeze your buttercream frog friend f0r 15 minutes until firm and solid enough to handle. I suppose you could pipe right onto the cake because you are a total wildcard frog-piping pro. (I’m not one of those yet!).
Frog Cake Aesthetic – what the heck is that!?
Honestly, I don’t even know exactly who started this frog cake trend, but it continues to rule. I think I first found it through Oracle Bakery’s adorable cakes. Derpy cute frog faces, toadstool mushrooms, ponds, grass, flowers, blossoms – and DUCKS – they stole my heart. Anything goes on these adorable, sweet-natured cakes, because there’s a gentle innocence to them and honestly, they simply make me smile. Anything that can make you smile in your life these days is a good thing, don’t you think?
Plus, from a cake decorating standpoint, the frog cake is the type of cake that you can really modify endlessly – how many frogs? Small frog, big frog? Frog wearing a top hat!? Frog sitting next to Jabba the Hutt… etc… To make this Big Frog with Little Frog cake, I followed the same method as my Kawaii Easter Bunny cake. You can use the same recipe, or follow the instructions for a vegan one like I did for this froggy on froggy!

Poor frog friends. Sadly, they got the big old cake chop! If I make this again, I think I’ll do FROG BUDDY INCEPTION where there are continual tiny frogs on top of each frog’s head, haha – because why not!? xo Lyndsay
