Party like it’s 2014! How cute is the shape of a donut?? Circular, puffy, dripping with pretty crystallized glaze and covered in sprinkles – I could never resist. Host a donut decorating party with a few easy steps! I was thinking this would be a fun bridal shower theme idea but ladies are usually trying to trim down for their weddings, right? I felt the pressure to trim down. My pre-wedding fitness regime was kind of hilarious. I power walked on an incline on the treadmill every day for 40 minutes. I don’t even think I ate much differently than I normally did. I simply added in the super boring power walking while listening to tunes. You really do feel like a hamster, huffing and puffing it on a treadmill. On a road to nowhere! But I fit nicely into my wedding dress and I was happy. I like feeling fit and fitting my clothes better. However, I also like to lie on the couch and power-snack on ice cream and crunchy salty delicious chips.
What was I saying? Oh yeah, donut decorating party! Bake up a few dozen donuts and have them set up a donut decorating station. Have icing sugar, milk, flavourings, food colouring and toppings like sprinkles, coconut, fresh fruit and edible flowers on hand – your guests will have a blast dunking donuts into glazes and coming up with some donut-y fun. Then, you know what happens? You get to CRAM THOSE DONUTS. DONUT SNACK ATTACK. LADIES BE GETTING DONUT CRAZY. Yes, CAPS LOCK was necessary.
My favourite donut glaze starts with icing sugar and a few teaspoons of milk. Mix together one cup of icing sugar with 5 teaspoons of milk and 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract for a classic vanilla glaze. Then, take those proportions and run with it – in place of the vanilla extract, try fresh squeezed lemon juice, or maraschino cherry syrup, coffee extract, fresh brewed tea, raspberry preserves mixed with more milk – the glaze ideas are endless. I like my glaze a little on the thicker side, so I start with less liquid and add more as needed. For more donut decorating ideas and glaze recipes, visit my post on Craftsy! xo Lyndsay
